The brothers, religion, and money...
The three themes that have jumped out at me thus far are family, religion, and money. Part of me wonders if any of the sons have had the solid upbringing that would instill a good solid moral conscience in them. Are they interdependent and interconnected enough to care (show guilt/remorse) if they cause harm? It also seems as though they do not have a solid grasp of the reality of money... in that it doesn't grow on trees, jumping from house to house and having others provide for you may not provide these boys with an adequate portrait of not only the reality of money, but also a sense of entitlement (e.g. they are entitled to the good life somehow). Finally, I find it interesting that the author has brought not only the sons, but what is left of the family together - and it is all centered around the elder (religion).
